We must protect our irreplaceable old and ancient forests. Your government has committed to implementing the Old Growth Strategic Review  (OGSR) and fundamentally changing our relationship with irreplaceable natural ecosystems here in British Columbia. Today marks three years since your government’s public commitment to implement the fourteen recommendations of the OGSR.

Today, I'm calling on you to act immediately to protect old growth across the province. We need your leadership to keep these ancient trees and their ecosystems alive.

Please act now to:
Implement a full and immediate ban on old growth logging. 
Immediately provide First Nations with funding to offset the economic impacts of reduced logging. Make a historic investment towards a dedicated provincial fund for Indigenous-led conservation solutions for at-risk old-growth.
Immediately give direction to statutory decision-makers, including the Chief Forester and district managers, to prioritise ecosystem integrity and biodiversity over timber interests. This means dramatically reducing annual allowable cut levels throughout the province. 
Immediately remove the drawdown provision that dramatically lessens the amount of old growth timber licensees are required to preserve in what the province has called low biodiversity areas (this provision applies to nearly half of the landscape in the Kootenay Boundary and Revelstoke regions and these areas are very rarely ‘low biodiversity’).
Immediately establish science based-targets for old growth retention under land use plans. 
Offer all needed support and remove barriers to speed up the pace of implementing solutions and fast tracking development of Forest Landscape Plans and modernised land use plans that safeguard biodiversity across the province.
Improve transparency by regularly sharing accurate and detailed information on progress implementing all OGSR recommendations with the public, especially deferrals (with details for every risk category), logging rates and the state of forests in B.C.
