Dear Minister of Forests,

I am calling on your government to take action for some of our province's most at-risk forests and caribou habitat near Foster Creek in the Northern Monashee Mountains.

These blocks and the proposed development contain irreplaceable old and ancient forests and caribou habitat for the Columbia North herd.

One hundred of the 120 hectares slated to be logged were recommended for immediate deferral by the province's own technical advisory panel as part of BC's commitment to press pause on logging its most at-risk old growth. Instead, BC Timber Sales has quietly removed nearly 100 hectares of deferral in order for it to be logged. BCTS put the blocks up for auction in June and sold them in early July. Logging could begin at any time, the trees are still standing and your government can still protect the area.

Logging these will destroy irreplaceable ancient inland rainforest and put caribou in the Columbia North herd at greater predation risk resulting in population declines.

Your government has a responsibility to protect caribou habitat and these irreplaceable forests, not log them.

Please defer harvesting and development in all blocks in TA2933 with a Part 13 deferral under the Forest Act.
