12th Wild & Scenic thank you

Our hearts are full. Thanks to you — our dedicated ticket holders, generous sponsors, silent auction donors, and enthusiastic auction winners — this year’s Wild & Scenic Film Festival was an unforgettable celebration of storytelling, innovation, community, and collective action.

On November 15th, the Columbia Valley Centre was filled as we experienced films that inspired us, challenged us, and reminded us of the incredible power we hold to protect the places we love. Some of you bid on silent auction items. Some of you shared your ideas on the Passion to Action board. But your participation didn’t just make the 12th Wild & Scenic Film Festival possible, it strengthened our shared commitment to conservation in the Columbia Valley.

Thank you to everyone! A dominant theme at our Passion to Action board was around sustainable opportunities in our valley. What areas of sustainability would you like to see and/or learn about?

If your new year's resolution is to get more involved in our valley community, or you're inspired to bring real sustainability to our wild places, let us know how you want to be involved and we will make it happen together! Our volunteers undertake an array of activities, tell us what you’d like to see or how you’d like to help and we will find a place for you.

As we look ahead, we are more inspired than ever to continue fostering dialogue, driving action, and nurturing a community that cares fiercely for its mountains, waters, and wild spaces.

Winter bird count

The Christmas Bird Count is coming up on December 14th, as part of North America’s longest-running Citizen Science project. The information collected during the Christmas Bird Count becomes one of the world’s largest sets of wildlife survey data. Monitoring birds in this way helps to shine a spotlight on recent population declines and potential consequences for ecosystems.
Join your fellow bird lovers after for a potluck dinner.

Welcome to our new staff

We bid a sad fairwell to Helena-Grace as she moves on to new endeavours. Appreciation from everyone at Wildsight for the passion and dedication she has brought to her role as Program Manager during her time at Wildsight Invermere. Thank you Helena-Grace, we wish you the very best for your future.

We are very excited to announce two new staff members at Wildsight Invermere. Kirsty and Carla will be co-program managers. They’re working on some very exciting projects for 2026, so stay tuned to find out more.

Kirsty is originally from Australia, but moved to Invermere in 2021 and promptly fell in love with the landscape and mountain activities. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science and has years of community organizing and environmental consultancy under her belt. Kirsty has spent the last decade travelling internationally, mostly living in mountain communities from the Austrian Alps, Japan, Australia and Canada. Wildsight channels her passion for environmental stewardship, community connection and championing our planet’s wild places.

Carla recently moved across the Great Divide from Banff to Brisco, with the goal of creating a values-aligned life where she can grow and forage her own food, connect closely to wild spaces, and share those experiences with others. Carla has a background working in waste reduction, food systems, climate action, and human-wildlife coexistence. Outside of work you can find her writing, playing in the mountains, learning in the garden, or daydreaming about her next creative endeavour in the kitchen.
